‘Game of Thrones’ Mixtape to Feature Big Boi, Common & Wale
By Shannon Carlin
In honor of the upcoming season of Game of Thrones, the network is releasing a mixtape called Catch the Throne, which, according to the Wall Street Journal, will feature ten rappers and Latin music artists including Common, Big Boi, Daddy Yankee and Wale.
The artists will be singing over beats made from samples from the show. Yes, Wale will be rapping alongside Khaleesi and her dragons. The rapper even shared a sample lyric with the paper: “I’m tellin’ whoever messin’ with me/I can bring you that Khaleesi heat/Use my King, knack for words, as an actual sword/I can decapitate a rapper…”
With the release of the mixtape, HBO is trying to expand their “multicultural” audience, which includes African-Americans and Latinos.
Avid GOT watcher, Common explained that the idea for this mixtape is no different than what Wu-Tang Clan was doing in the ’90s when they used dialogue from 1970s Chinese action movies.
“Twenty years ago, Wu-Tang was breaking ground,” Common told the Wall Street Journal. “Nowadays, people are open to anything. There are no limitations in hip-hop culture.”
There’s no official release date, but the mixtape is coming. Season four of the show premieres April 6 on HBO.
