It’s official, CeeLo Green is leaving The Voice.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which airs today, (Feb. 19), The Voice judge dropped the bombshell, announcing, “I’m not coming back at all.” He then explained that he would be leaving the show to continue his music career and release a new album.
“I don’t want to wear out my welcome there,” he explained. “I have so many other things I want to do. I haven’t released an album in four years. I’m almost done with an album. Music is very important to me. I didn’t mean to drop the bomb today.”
But CeeLo isn’t completely leaving the world of TV or even NBC completely.
“I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC,” he said. “I have a television show development deal with them as well and some other talk show opportunities.”
He then added, “I’m going to miss The Voice too.”
The sixth season of The Voice is set to premiere this Monday (Feb. 24) with original judges Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, along with Shakira, filling in for Christina Aguilera, and Usher, who will take CeeLo’s seat. No word yet if Usher will become CeeLo’s full time replacement.
