In an interview with Hartford’s Hot 93.7 (a Radio.com station), Ty Dolla $ign gave his opinion on the GRAMMYs recent snub of Kendrick Lamar, and he like the rest of the world isn’t quite sure how K. Dot didn’t beat out Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for Best Rap Album.

The young L.A. rapper—who just released his EP, Beach House— joked that, “the only way for us to win is to dye our skin cells like Michael [Jackson],” before sticking up for his fellow Cali rapper.

“It’s all good, [Kendrick] definitely deserved something,” Ty said. “He definitely had the best album, definitely was the best new artist.”

“But Macklemore, I’m not hating on him, it’s something different to the game,” Ty explained. “I like his stuff too, I like his production on his songs, too. But Kendrick still should have won.”

Ty’s not the only one who believes that, after the GRAMMYs Macklemore texted Kendrick to apologize for beating him. “You got robbed. I wanted you to win,” Macklemore wrote. “It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you.”

In the radio interview, Ty also revealed that he’s prepping his debut album, which will feature Kendrick and, hopefully, Jhené Aiko. In a recent interview with Radio.com, Ty teased that his upcoming debut will feature a collaboration with Icona Pop. “They had a song they wanted me to get on. They [cut] it and said I could have [the track],” Ty explained. “I’m just waiting on the right time to drop it because it doesn’t sound like the rest of my s**t. It’s next level. On some 2040 s**t.”

Ty is also working on another EP called Free TC, set to drop this July. Ty says the 8-song EP is “dedicated to my brother and every dude wrongfully accused and locked up in prison.”
