Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have heaps of nominations of nominations for the 2014 GRAMMYs, tied with Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, and Pharrell with seven nods each. But just because the duo is now the talk of the awards show, doesn’t mean that they need high-level production for every performance as their recent stunt on New York public transportation can attest.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis recently boarded a northbound Bronx bus and surprised commuters with a performance of their GRAMMY-nominated track “Can’t Hold Us.” The two unsuspectingly paid their bus fare before Lewis dropped his hoodie and hit the play button on his boom box and got the crowd clapping along. Meanwhile, Macklemore walked down the aisle, tossed out paper towels (we’re not sure why) and performed with everybody on the bus. Watch below.
Part of the GRAMMYs Music Unleashes Us campaign, the stunt aims to capture people’s reactions to music. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis aren’t the only acts that have been tapped for the campaign. Expect short films from Eminem, Katy Perry and P!nk and fun.‘s Nate Ruess.
The GRAMMY Awards air on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
