Update: Not just Julian Casablancas, but The Strokes will also be playing, according to the official lineup posted on Governors Ball’s website.
Following a damp and squishy Governors Ball in 2013, this year the New York City festival will glom onto OutKast‘s much hyped reunion for a big headliner, as well as indie rock mainstays Vampire Weekend and Jack White.
Idolator reports that the lineup appeared in an ad in the New York Times this morning (Jan. 15), which features more major EDM and rock acts in the second bill like Skrillex, Axwell & Ingrosso (aka two thirds of Swedish House Mafia) and Disclosure, as well as Phoenix, Interpol, and Foster the People.
Let’s break down the rest of the lineup as we see it.
For more indie rock, you have: TV on the Radio, Julian Casablancas, Spoon, Broken Bells, Neko Case, Damon Albarn, The Kills, Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Tanlines, Papa, Diarrhea Planet, Jenny Lewis, Fitz and the Tantrums, Washed Out, Kurt Vile
For more pop: The Head and The Heart, The Naked and Famous, The 1975, Bastille, Janelle Monae,
For more rap: J. Cole, Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, Tyler, the Creator, Run the Jewels, Ratking, The Internet
For more EDM/electronic: Empire of the Sun, James Blake, AlunaGeorge, Classix
And for more eclectic or classic acts: Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley and many others.
Here’s the ad in the New York Times (via My Social List):
Governors Ball (no apostrophe) goes down June 6-8 at Randall’s Island, NY. Three-day passes are available for $230, while one day tickets are $100. Tickets are available at the website. Pray for sun, or at least no hurricanes.
