Prince isn’t just a fan of TV comedy New Girl, he’s a Nick and Jess shipper.
Yes, according to E! News, the Purple One doesn’t just like the show, he’s downright obsessed.
“He contacted us last season because he’s a huge fan,” New Girl executive producer Brett Baer said. “He knows everything about the show. He contacted Zooey [Deschanel] and Hannah [Simone] directly and asked to do the show.”
Baer said that they wanted to get Prince to appear on the show last year, so when New Girl was given this year’s coveted spot after the Super Bowl, they felt it was perfect timing. Even better, Prince had a few suggestion for his guest spot.
“He said, ‘I want to be involved in the show in a real way and I want to help Nick and Jess with their relationship,'” executive producer Dave Finkel said, to which Baer threw out the concept that all Prince is actually doing at Paisley Park is throwing pajama parties and working on his New Girl fan fiction. If only.
Prince’s wish is apparently coming true since it seems he’ll be helping his favorite TV couple work out some of their relationship issues on the upcoming episode, airing on Fox Feb. 4 immediately following the Super Bowl.
“His thing was all about getting to Jess and trying to bring out this inner part of her that hadn’t been brought to the forefront,” Baer explained. “The word ‘hip tips’ was sort of the thing. He put it, ‘I think I can give her some hip tips!'”
So is Prince funny?
“He’s genuinely funny,” Finkel told E!. “He’s got a very quiet, wry sense of humor but he kills. There’s a moment in the episode where he’s sitting in between Zooey and Jake on a bench. And it’s a silent beef and he’s just looking between them trying to figure them out. And it’s hilarious. He has crazy comic instincts.”
Baer added, “His whole thing was making sure that he was supporting Zooey and supporting Jake [Johnson]. It was incredible.”
