Bootlegged ‘Beyoncé’ Vinyl Available for Sale on German Website

Beyoncé has no plans to release her new album on vinyl, but that doesn’t mean others won’t do it for her.

A bootlegged “limited-edition” version of her new album, Beyoncé, is currently being sold through German website, VinylDigital.com (via Idolator).

“Limited to 1000 numbered copies! Beyonces quickstrike [sic?] album comes with features from Jay-Z, Frank Ocean, Drake & others!” the website boasts.

Those eager to hear “Partition” on their hi-fi should be warned: this is not an officially sanctioned release of Beyoncé from Columbia Records. An email response from her label refutes the bootleg outright.

“We do not have any plans on releasing the album on vinyl at this time,” a label rep told Radio.com. “Not saying it’s never going to happen, but just no immediate plans. We’re looking into this German site now as it just hit our radar as well.”

This isn’t the first time a high-profile, critically acclaimed R&B album has been bootlegged from the CD or digital version to a vinyl. In November of 2012, vinyl bootlegs of Frank Ocean‘s channel ORANGE were sold before the official release was available for purchase.

SPIN acquired a copy of the bootleg and agreed with one commenter’s take on the sound quality. “This album is fantastic. This is a good bootleg. Basically, the album sounds like it should.” Which is to say, the company did not have access to the masters, but rather just used the digital files and pressed it to a vinyl. Caveat emptor, audiophiles.

It also appears that channel ORANGE is still available on VinylDigital’s website, with the same serial number (FRANKOCEANLP02) that can be found on many copies available popular used music exchange website, Discogs.

Beyoncé broke records with her surprise release last month. She became the only woman to reach No. 1 with her first five studio albums and had one of the biggest releases of 2013, selling 617,000 in its first week. She also had the biggest sales week for a woman in 2013 and the year’s fourth overall largest sales debut.

“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” Knowles said in a press release issued shortly after the album appeared on iTunes. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
