Style Files: Miley Cyrus Broods in New Marc Jacobs Ad Campaign

Miley Cyrus is the new face of Marc Jacobs’ spring ad campaign. The “Wrecking Ball” singer was photographed by David Sims and is giving a look not frequently seen from the singer, looking despondent and and bereft of her joie de vivre.

While some say she’s shown beside a “dead girl,” she actually shares the shot with two models, Natalie Westling and Esmerelda Seay Reynolds, who are very much alive. Jacobs explained to Women’s Wear Daily the idea behind the shoot.

“We wanted this beach with girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark,” Jacobs said.

This isn’t the first time Cyrus has teamed up with Jacobs. Cyrus stripped down last year for his T-shirt campaign “Protect the Skin You’re In.” In October, she presented him with the top award at Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars and earlier this week she tweeted a photo of herself wearing a Jacobs-designed T-shirt.

Not everyone seems to be a fan of the designer and singer teaming up, though. Longtime photographer (and frequent Jacobs collaborator) Juergen Teller was originally asked to shoot Cyrus but refused. “I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist,” Jacobs told WWD. “He just didn’t want to shoot her.”
