Katy B recently appeared on the UK radio show In:Demand to cover One Direction’s “Story of My Life.” But while 1D’s original version is a Mumford and Sons-esque barnstormer, Katy went for a more subdued take on the bittersweet love song that attempts to pull at the heartstrings of even the most rabid Directioner.
With just a piano, Katy tones down that sassy R&B style she’s become known for and just belts it out.
Sounding like a lovesick teenager, she sweetly sings, “The story of my life/I give him hope/I spend him love/Until he’s broke,” making it clear she’s not ready to give up on this guy, even if she should.
Katy’s new album, Little Red — the full length follow-up to 2011’s On A Mission — is set to drop on February 10 and features Sampha and Jessie Ware, who appears on the previously released single, “Aaliyah.”
