Martina McBride’s Soul and R&B Covers Album ‘Everlasting’ Has New Release Date of April 8
Martina McBride digs deep on her forthcoming album which will feature covers of classic soul and R&B songs.
Everlasting, due out March 4, features the country singer belting some of the most beloved classics in both genres. UPDATE: Everlasting now has a new release date of April 8.
Produced by Don Was, the album includes covers of Sam Cooke‘s “Bring It on Home to Me,” which was recorded with Gavin DeGraw, as well as Aretha Franklin‘s “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man,” Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes’ “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” and Jimmy Ruffin’s “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted,” according to a press release.
The tracks covered on her album span from 1955 to 2010 and include additional songs by Elvis Presley, the Supremes and Van Morrison. McBride recorded the album in Nashville at Blackbird Studio and will be releasing the album on her own label through Kobalt label services. “These songs have beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics, which is basically all you can ask for as a singer. While this is a bit of a departure for me song-wise, stylistically I approached these songs the way I always have which is singing with as much soul and emotion as I possibly can,” McBride said. “I think my fans will love this record because they are some of the best songs of all time done in a very classic style. I’m so excited for them to hear it and to take this record, complete with a horn section, on the road in the spring.”
In a personal note on her website, McBride said working with Was on the project was a “dream come true” as he’s produced albums by her favorite artists including Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison and The Rolling Stones.
“He is so musical and really helped me hone in on how to do these songs in a way that not only features the vocals, but also connects this music with what I’ve done in the past in a really honest, organic way,” she wrote. “Basically it’s an album of songs with beautiful, timeless melodies and heartfelt lyrics. It’s a romantic album. It’s a fun album. It has familiar songs as well as some songs you may be hearing for the first time.”
Everlasting will drop on March 4. Stay tuned for a complete track listing in the upcoming weeks.
