Kelly Clarkson is heading down to Nashville to play the role she was born to play: herself.

After last night’s mid-season finale, the ABC drama confirmed that Clarkson would appear in an episode of the show where she’ll record Mazzy Star’s hit “Fade Into You” with characters Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and Scarlett (Clare Bowen). Watch below as Palladio and Bowen perform the track on the Grand Ole Opry stage during season 1 of the show.

This isn’t the first time Clarkson will perform the song, having performed it at a show last year in Charlotte, North Carolina, after a fan requested it.

“This is my favorite part of the show because it’s the one song we do different every night,” she said. “With YouTube, no show is really that sacred because everything is online right after the first show. So, we like to make every show special. We let somebody in the audience we’re at every night pick a song and we learn it that day.”

She added: “This song happens to be a song . . . I know you all have these, your repeat songs that you just listen to hypnotically on repeat over and over. This is that song for me and I was very excited when I saw it on the fan request list.” Watch her perform a cover of Mazzy Star’s 1994 hit “Fade Into You” below.

Clarkson isn’t the first artist to appear on the show and play herself. Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, Pam Tillis, Chris Young, Brantley Gilbert, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, and Kip Moore also appeared on Nashville.

Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale aired last night and while she still finds it strange to see herself on television, it’s something she better get used to.
