Watch Metallica’s Entire Antarctica Concert Played Without Amps
Metallica, the most famous metal band in the world, just played a show in a cozy little venue at the bottom of the world. In a geodesic dome surrounded by a small group of Latin American contest winners and research scientists, Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett, and Trujillo performed a short set of old hits at a site near the heliport at Carlini Argentine Base, Antarctica.
Using wireless headphones to save on power that would otherwise be used by their amplifiers, the group played a 90-minute set to people in parkas and big gloves. Check out the replay of the band’s set below, which includes “Creeping Death”, “Master of Puppets”, “One”, “Blackened” and much more. I guess it would have been too much to play “Trapped Under Ice”, huh.
The landmark Antarctic concert marks the first time any foreign band has played Antarctica, and sets the record for a band who has played all seven continents of our earth in one year.
And as a bonus, check out this brief behind the scenes footage which features the band talking about the show beforehand, and footage of the concert of what it would sound like if you didn’t have the wireless headphones on.
