Jay Z Goes Vegan for Health, Supporting His Friend’s Business

Jay Z isn’t cutting a check to support his friend, exercise physiologist Marco Borges’ new business venture. He’s cutting meat and dairy out of his diet.
Yesterday (Dec. 3), Jay let his fans know that he’s going vegan in the name of the 22Days Challenge, a dietary plan started by Borges that provides nutrition-packed vegan options like power bars and supplements (all sold on the 22Days Challenge website) for those who are trying to “transform their lives, bodies and habits.”
Borges believes that eating a vegan diet, which is filled with fresh, nutritious ingredients, doesn’t only satisfy the body, but also the spirit, writing on his site, “We believe that the right attitude and approach to healthy living can positively affect the world.”
Jay was inspired to take the challenge after Borges recommended he embrace a “plant-based breakfast” everyday. “It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought,” he wrote. But Jay’s reason for starting the plan on December 3 — the day before his 44th birthday — had a lot to do with numerology.
“There’s something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day,” he explained. “It just feels right!”
Jay is planning to post his progress on his website. The rapper, who is currently on tour behind his latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail, is also hoping to get some good restaurant suggestions, letting everyone know, “Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! Please ha.”
And incase you were wondering, Beyonce is also going vegan for the next 22 days.
