Radio Feedback: Kings of Leon Shake Off a Hangover With Their Radio Debut
“Right when we landed in London, the most hungover we’ve ever been, ever… I was 16,” said Jared, the youngest of the four Followills who comprise Kings Of Leon. (Quick to correct the story, Caleb offered that Jared couldn’t have been drinking because he was too young at the time, still two years shy of England’s legal drinking age.)
Moments after hopping aboard the van to head to the hotel, the radio blared the notes of “Molly’s Chambers,” the second single off their 2003 debut full-length, Youth and Young Manhood. The driver yanked the van to the side of the road, at which point the guys got out and proceeded to dance. As if that wasn’t mind-blowing enough, as soon as they got back in the van they switched the station only to hear it again on another channel.
After six albums and millions of radio spins, the band still gets a kick out of hearing themselves out in the world.
“I shush people at dinner,” Jared admitted, pointing up at the invisible speaker in the ceiling. “Come on, be respectful.”
