Watch Arcade Fire Tackle Love & Loss in ‘Afterlife’ Video

For Arcade Fire’s video for “Afterlife,” off their recently released album Reflektor, the band decided to interpret love and loss in the most cinematic way possible.

The over 7-minute clip, directed by Emily Kai Bock and produced by The Creators Project, focuses on the internal wishes of a father and his two sons, who are all thinking back to the mom/wife who left them way too soon.

While the youngest boy dreams of being trapped in a washing machine, the oldest dreams of long, relaxing car rides and pool baptisms. It’s the father though, with his dreams of high school dances past that will bring on the waterworks.

Win Butler asks, “When love is gone where does it go?” and for these guys it’s there in the deepest recesses of the mind where love can never really die.
