Kanye West’s War of Words with Zappos Ends in the Toilet

Rapper, “creative genius” and quote machine Kanye West has been courting controversy like it’s his job along the current Yeezus Tour.
West has generated headlines with everything from tour merchandise emblazoned with the Confederate “rebel” flag to nightly onstage rants calling out everybody from the paparazzi to other “amazing creative inventors who weren’t recognized in their time” like inventor Nikola Tesla and film director Alejandro Jodorowsky.
During a recent podcast interview with writer Brett Easton Ellis (Less Than Zero, American Psycho), West took a swing at popular online retailer Zappos and its’ CEO, Tony Hsieh, saying the company sells “s*** product.”
“I got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos that he’s trying to tell me what I need to focus on,” West related during the interview about a recent meeting with Hsieh in Las Vegas (via E!). “Meanwhile, he sells all this s–t product to everybody, his whole thing is based off of selling s*** product.”
Not one to take such criticism lying down, Hsieh and Zappos made like Nas going in on Jay Z with the legendary diss track “Ether” and fired back at the “Black Skinhead” rapper, albeit in humorous fashion.
A tongue-in-cheek Tweet from Zappos stated, “Kanye West says Zappos sells s*** product. It’s true,” with a link to Zappos.com Gear S*** Product, featuring a picture of a toilet with a plunger in it going for a cool $100,000.
The items description is filled with comedic references to West: “Interested in buying sh-t product? You’ve come to the right place! Here at Zappos.com, we happily sell s*** products to everybody! This is the throne, everyone has been watching. Whether you’re #1 or #2, your clique will show no mercy, even in Paris.” Hsieh also tweeted out the listing personally.

The toilet is listed as “the perfect gift for the man that has everything,” with a link to a news report on West lashing out at Zappos.
The customer reviews for the toilet are equally comical, including such gems as “this Sh-t product is amazing! It totally beats out any new music videos you’re Bound 2 see!!” a reference to West’s much maligned music video for current single “Bound 2,” featuring a topless Kim Kardashian simulating sex with the rapper atop a motorcycle.
