Eminem once rapped about being Superman, but now the Detroit rapper has teamed up with Marvel Comics for a special collaboration with Iron Man.

For a limited edition variant cover for Mighty Avengers #3, artist Salvador Larroca has crafted an image of Eminem sitting next to Iron Man on the front porch of the rapper’s childhood home, as depicted on the cover of his new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

“When the opportunity came up for us to do a variant cover with Eminem and Marvel, we immediately thought about how cool it would be for Eminem to be sitting with one of his favorite super heroes on the steps of the now abandoned house that he grew up in,” the rapper’s manager Paul Rosenberg said in a press release about the collaboration. “It ties together perfectly with the campaign for The Marshall Mathers LP 2.”

While hip-hop heads and comic book collectors alike were sent immediately scrambling to their local comic stores to pick up a copy on release day (Nov. 6), they were nearly impossible to find. Each retailer was only sent a single issue of the special cover of the book, making it an instant collector’s item that’s already collecting top dollar.

Popular New York comic book store Forbidden Planet sold their lone copy for $100, employee Matt Desiderio told

“This is nothing new. Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth — they’ve all done comic books at this point,” he added.

It’s also not Eminem’s first foray into the world of comic books. Back in 2009, the “Berzerk” rapper appeared in a special Eminem/Punisher issue, which was also drawn by Larroca.

“Since I’m a big fan of Eminem, it’s a great honor that he wanted me for this project,” the artist said. “It really was a gift for me having the chance to team with him. If he needs me again in the future, I’ll be ready for the challenge!”

The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which was released this Tuesday (Nov.5), is on pace for a monster sales debut, with projections for the set to move between 700,000 and 750,000 copies in its first week. That would give Eminem the second biggest debut sales week of the year, only behind Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience, which opened at 968,000.
