David Blaine, famed doer of “magic” like suspending himself upside-down and electrocuting himself for 72 hours, is set to return to the small screen where he got his start doing Street Magic. His new 90-minute TV special, David Blaine: Real or Magic, will air as a 90-minute special in November and will feature Blaine performing for a grip of celebrities including Kanye West, Katy Perry, as well as Ricky Gervais, Woody Allen, Robert De Niro, Stephen Hawking and former President George W. Bush.
“I went after all of the people that I loved the most and surprised them and did magic in places that I knew people would understand that I couldn’t have staged or set up or had people pretending,” Blaine told The Hollywood Reporter. “I wanted it to all be believable and went after people you never could get to pretend. I combined that with going into the streets and encountering all different people to do magic nonstop.”
The show will reportedly take place inside the home (or kitchen) of Kanye West, and be more magic-focused and less endurance-focused than his recent televised stunts.
Will Kanye, who’s generally not amused by jejune parlor tricks, be enthralled by David Blaine’s dark powers? While no specific air-date has been announced, you can find out when the special airs in November.
