Metallica aren’t exactly the band you’d associate with Justin Bieber. But, it turns out the band who once called themselves Alcoholica and wrote the songs “Harvester of Sorrow” and Call of Ktulu” call themselves Bieber fans.
In an interview with Q Magazine, the band were asked how they felt about the Biebs. The magazine asked how the band felt about Bieber covering their song “Fade to Black.” The video, which has been taken down, featured 15-seconds of Bieber playing air guitar while singing the guitar solo from Metallica’s 1984 hit “Fade to Black.”
“Are we Beliebers? Yes,” frontman James Hetfield said.
Meanwhile, drummer Lars Ulrich questioned if he really is a Belieber himself.
“Is it possible to have respect for him without being a Belieber? I think the kid’s really talented and obviously to go through what he’s going through at that early age must be a mindf***. So the fact that he still goes out there and does it, I admire that and I think he’s super talented, so I guess I am kind of a Belieber. If he likes ‘One’, and Liam Gallagher likes him, OK, there you go.”
Bandmate Robert Trujillo said he’ll be a Belieber under one condition: “As long as he stays out of trouble.”
Bieber told GQ Magazine last year that Metallica is one of his favorite bands and named “Fade to Black” and “One” as two of his favorite songs. “Those are my jams,” he said. Those are our jams, too, Justin. Those are our jams, too.
