Rihanna has gotten herself in a bit of trouble over a new set of photos — not for what she’s wearing (or rather, not wearing) but for the location of the shots.
While in Abu Dhabi, Rihanna decided to model in the courtyard of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center. According to CNN, the landmark mosque asked her to leave after she posed “inappropriately” for photos on its grounds.
In the eight photos posted to Rihanna’s instagram, she wears a demure all-black outfit that includes a hijab similar to the ones worn by Muslim women, along with a gold chain and red lipstick. Per Muslim custom, only her hands and face are visible.
Many of the photos, like the one below, depict the mosque in the background with Rihanna doing her best model poses.
Other photos include captions that some might say are offensive in the context of the spiritual location.
One photo, featuring Rihanna posing as she looks on at a group of woman in traditional Muslim garb , features the caption, “B**** stole my look,” while another shot, which features Rihanna sunning herself in the not-so-revealing outfit, features the hashtag, “#NoTanlines.”
In a statement from the mosque, they explain that Rihanna was in the courtyard and was never allowed to enter the mosque itself.
“She was asked to leave before entering the actual mosque after taking some photos that did not fit within the rules and regulations set out to preserve the sacredness of the center,” the statement said (per CNN).
Rihanna was in town for a concert that took place on Saturday (October 19) night. The singer has yet to comment publicly on the photoshoot.
