To get you up to speed, Pearl Jam is on the verge of releasing their tenth album, Lightning Bolt, on October 15th, followed by an extensive U.S. tour.

Following their lead singles “Mind Your Manners” and “Sirens” ,the band has unveiled an engaging new nine-minute documentary that reveals insight behind the making of the album, as well as snippets of more new music.

Opening with Eddie Vedder cruising around Seattle in a classic 1960s Lincoln Continental, the Danny Clinch-directed short film employs an inspired cast of characters to interview the band about Lightning Bolt, including writer/director Judd Apatow, Wild Flag guitarist/Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein, surfer Mark Richards and former New Orleans Saints NFL player Steve Gleason, who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease in 2011 and quizzes the band via a voice computer.

Among the film’s revelations include guitarist Mike McCready explaining how he’s most proud of the song “Sirens,” calling it a “high water mark,” while bassist Jeff Ament goes on to explain how the song’s title comes from actual sirens heard one night while the band was in Los Angeles.

“Made it through another one,” Vedder says towards the conclusion of the film about Lightning Bolt. “Can’t wait to see what’s next.” The clip ends with an extended preview of the album’s opening track, “Getaway.”

Pearl Jam’s U.S. tour kicks off on October 11 with a sold-out show at Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center.
