Last night (Sept. 25), Christine McVie joined her former bandmates in Fleetwood Mac on stage at the O2 Arena in England for one of her signature songs, “Don’t Stop.” And she wasn’t the only Mac alumni in the house: according to the NME, Peter Green, the band’s original guitarist, singer and leader, was in the audience. Stevie Nicks, who joined the group years after Green left, dedicated “Landslide” to him.

Last year, spoke with Lindsey Buckingham about McVie, who retired from music shortly after Fleetwood Mac’s 1998 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. He said that when she left the band, she was going through several life changes:

“She ended up getting a divorce, she ended up selling her house in L.A., she moved back to England, she quit the band, she sold her publishing,” Buckingham said. “She didn’t necessarily have to burn as many bridges as she did. Everyone sometimes wonders whether or not there might have been more of a middle ground for her to strike, not necessarily in terms of her staying in Fleetwood Mac.  But she just wanted to reinvent herself.  She seems to want to lead the antithesis of the life she led before, and I don’t pretend to understand such a radical change but it was obviously something she needed.”

As for the chances of working with her again, he said, “I would be shocked if she ever expressed any interest to do anything with us.  Shocked and pleased.”

Judging by the video of their performance last night, he, along with thousands in the audience, was indeed pleased.

McVie, who attended the Sept. 16 London premiere of the Stevie Nicks documentary, In Your Dreams, is expected to perform with Fleetwood Mac again on their final London show on September 27, according to an interview that Nicks did with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Fleetwood Mac’s tour lasts through October 8, when they play Amsterdam.
