Bey and Jay earned the top spot on Forbes‘ Highest-Earning Celebrity Couples list for the second year in a row, bringing in $95 million between June 2012 and June 2013. That’s $17 million more than they made in the same span of time the previous year.
Let’s run down all the first couple of hip-hop’s moneymaking schemes, shall we.
First there was Jay Z’s album Watch The Throne going platinum. His most recent album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, came out in July, so unfortunately those album sales don’t count this time around. But it didn’t even matter, since his tour with Justin Timberlake brought in $1.4 million per night in America. He unfortunately did not earn any extra money by ditching the hyphen in his name.
Along with his music ventures, HOV also held a pretty hefty stake in the Brooklyn Nets and the Barclays Center, where they play. He’s since sold his stake in the Nets to head coach Jason Kidd for $500,000. Jay’s also trying to unload his claim in the Barclays Center for $1.5 million. But don’t worry his sports management company, Roc Nation Sports, helped bring in a little money with high profile signings like NBA player Kevin Durant and Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano. And as we already know Jay Z’s not a businessman, he’s a business, man.
While Jay had a good year, Knowles had a great year. She didn’t put a new album out, but her Mrs. Carter World Tour alone helped her out-earn her husband by $11 million. Not to mention her fragrance collection, her House of Deron clothing line and advertising deals with Pepsi and H+M, which helped bring in the big bucks.
Supermodel Gisele Bunchen and her hubby, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady came in second earning $80 million. While Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ranked in third with $50 million.
Jay’s partner in crime Kanye West and his baby mama Kim Kardashian also made the list, coming in at fourth making a combined $30 million this year. Unfortunately, the sale for Kanye’s latest album Yeezus did not factor in to this year’s list so as of right now, the throne belongs to Jay.
