Chromeo’s New Album Will Feature Solange & Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig
For their new album, White Women, Chromeo enlisted a little help from some of their famous friends.
In their AMA on Reddit yesterday (September 18), the electrofunk duo revealed that Solange and Vampire Weekend’s frontman Ezra Koenig will sing on the new record. Koenig previously teamed up with the guys for their song, “I Could Be Wrong” off their their last album, 2010’s Business Casual. And let’s not forget that in 2011 Koenig joined Chromeo onstage at Coachella to perform the song and show off his impressive sax playing skills.
They also said that Pat Mahoney from LCD Soundsystem and Toro y Moi would make appearances on the album. The band chose to keep the details of these songs under wraps for now.
Chromeo has already given a little taste of their upcoming record with their new single, “Over Your Shoulder,” which is dedicated to a lady who needs a little confidence boost. On the sexy track they sing, “Stop looking over you shoulder/ Cause if it was up to me/ I would make you feel right.” (Listen below.)
In yesterday’s AMA, the band also admitted that their favorite ZZ Top album is Eliminator and that they’d love to work with fellow Canadian Drake. Oh, and they also gave a few details about the album, like the story behind its head scratching title.
“We chose the title because it’s the name of the first Helmut Newton book,” the band wrote. “He’s a huge influence on us…you know, the legs, that ’80s sexy look. And we thought the title was ballsy, funny, was going to get people thinking. Our music always blurred boundaries between past and present (is it retro? is it modern? is it both?) and now we want to blur boundaries between gender and race as well. Makes sense?”
Yeah, we get it. Don’t worry Chromeo.
