Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! Katy Perry enlists a wide range of jungle creatures in her new music video for “Roar,” which dropped today (September 5).
In the clip, Perry is a storybook character before the video comes to life and shows her as one of the survivors of a plane crash. On a flight with an awful boyfriend who soon gets eaten by a tiger, Perry learns to battle against all odds in the jungle. Pretty soon she’s flying through the jungle like a modern day female Tarzan. Sharing the video screen with elephants, alligators, monkeys and of course a tiger, Perry has gone where no pop princess has gone before: Junglescope.
“I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire/’Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar/Louder, louder than a lion/’Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar,” she sings passionately.
When she comes face to face with the tiger that devoured her boyfriend, what does she do? You’ll just have to watch to see. Watch below.
Just this week Perry dethroned Robin Thicke‘s undeniable song of the summer “Blurred Lines” with “Roar.” Her eighth No. 1 hit, the song is also Perry’s fastest selling single to date with with more than 557,000 digital downloads in its first week. The track went on to become the biggest Digital Song sales week of 2013.
Perry’s forthcoming album Prism drops Oct. 22.
