The speculation of whether or not Prince has been running the mysterious 3rdeyegirl Twitter account was confirmed yesterday (August 13) in a series of tweets from the man himself.

Prince not only let the world know he was on Twitter, but let fans know exactly what he was having for dinner, posted an intriguing selfie, as well as dropped some new music.

His new track “Groovy Potential” is a smooth jam with hand-clapped rhythms, delicate piano and ever-sexy horns. Forty seconds in, Prince sings, “Another long night or another mystery/Tell me babe, what’s it gonna be?” The track is available for purchase on the 3rdeyegirl website. Listen to a snippet below.

The fact that Prince has decided to join Twitter is an enigma in and of itself as he has spoken out about his hatred for the Internet in the past. In a 2010 interview with England’s Daily Mirror, the singer said he would never release music online.

“The Internet’s completely over,” Prince said after revealing he would not sell his album 20Ten via iTunes or Amazon. “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”

Times have certainly changed as Prince isn’t the only legacy artist finally embracing Twitter. Just last week Led Zeppelin‘s Robert Plant joined Twitter, giving his first 25,000 followers a free download of “What Is and What Should Never Be,” performed live in concert.
