Earlier this week, Taylor Swift was taken to task by some for her passing Twitter mention of the infamous 2009 Kanye West MTV Video Music Awards mic-snatching incident after she was nominated for two VMAs.

It seems Swift isn’t the only one still fixated on that controversial moment. New audio has surfaced, capturing a voice that most certainly sounds to be Kanye West’s, just hours after Taylorgate. Gawker, whose tipster provided the audio, claims that the recording was taken at a New York City restaurant following the VMAs, and that Kanye was not aware he was being recorded. His discussion turns distinctly racial when discussing his motivation for interrupting Swift, which — for those who don’t have the moment forever engrained — to say that Beyoncé was cheated out of an award over Swift.

“I’m pushing the envelope! I wrote my f***in’ ‘Run This Town’ verse for a f***in’ month! When I heard Eminem’s verse on the Drake s***, I went back and rewrote my s*** for two days,” West practically screams on the recording. “I canceled appointments to rewrite! I f***in’ care…Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I’m alive! And if I’m alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I’m alive, you gon’ have to deal with it. ‘Cause there ain’t gonna be no more motherf***ing Elvises with no James Browns.”

When a female questions why West seems so angry, he explodes, claiming that his “mother died for this fame s***! F*** MTV.”

The rapper goes on to throw Pink under the bus, questioning why she was invited to perform two songs at that year’s VMA ceremony, while he wasn’t asked to perform at all. “How the f*** Pink perform two songs and I didn’t even get asked to perform ‘Heartless’?” he said. “‘Heartless’ is the biggest song of the year!”

West’s long-running issues with the awards shows are well documented, with the rapper going off on the American Music Awards, the GRAMMYS and even the MTV Europe Music Awards over the years. In 2007, he claimed to have been “betrayed” by the cable network, vowing to “never return to MTV.”

More recently, West’s music industry target was the radio, telling the crowd at NYC’s Governors Ball that radio isn’t where he wants to be and that he won’t release a Yeezus single to the airwaves (until he did). He also recently told the New York Times that he apologized to Swift over the VMAs debacle our of “peer pressure.”

A full transcription of the rant (via Gawker):

I’d rather just let the [inaudible] speak for itself. You know, it’s like, I was happy to be in a situation where people couldn’t say, oh, I was trying to promote my own song. For the times that I’ve, like, defended myself… [Tape break] I’m pushing the envelope! I wrote my f***in’ ‘Run This Town’ verse for a f***in’ month! When I heard Eminem’s verse on the Drake s***, I went back and rewrote my shit for two days. I canceled appointments to rewrite! I f***in’ care! You know what I’m saying? And that’s what I’m saying. Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I’m alive! And if I’m alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I’m alive, you gon’ have to deal with it. ‘Cause there ain’t gonna be no more motherf***ing Elvises with no James Browns.

[A female voice asks, "Why are you so angry? What's the anger?"] Because my mother got arrested for the f***in’ sit-ins. My mother died for this fame s***! I moved to f***in’ Hollywood chasing this s***. My mother died because of this s***. F*** MTV.

It ain’t no love. What the f*** was Pink performing? Don’t nobody know that song. Pink performed twice! Two songs? How the f*** Pink perform two songs and I didn’t even get asked to perform “Heartless.” “Heartless” is the biggest song of the year! It had the most spins of the first quarter! I don’t know that Pink song! But I know that she’s pink! They put me in a f***in’ room and [inaudible].

[A male voice asks, "How the f*** did Eminem get the Best Hip-Hop song in 2008?"] Eminem won Best Video! Rap Video! Yo, when he won that s***, I was so happy. I was so happy I [unclear]. I said, “N****, I’m gon’ do this until y’all put a bullet in my head. I’m runnin’ up to y’all, put a…” [tape cuts].

This secret tape comes not long after West’s new music video, “Black Skinhead” was leaked online ahead of schedule, which the rapper lamented as “heartbreaking” via Twitter.
