Update: It’s been revealed that Diddy was cleverly promoting a skit for Funny or Die called “Downton Diddy.” Watch it here.

Fans of the wildly popular British ITV drama Downton Abbey have been eagerly awaiting any and all information regarding the show’s upcoming fourth season, seen in America on the PBS network.

It was just announced this week that the new season will kick off on January 5 and run through February 23, with show stars like Shirley MacLaine, Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern returning to reprise their roles on the beloved series.

The show also plans on adding six new characters to show, including reports from earlier this year that fans could look forward to a black character joining the show in the role of a jazz singer, possibly as a love interest for Lady Mary, played by actress Michelle Dockery.

According to a Tweet from music mega-star Sean Combs (AKA “Diddy”) today (May 15), he is the actor who’s been chosen to fill that role.

A notorious master of promotion and hype, immediate speculation around the shocking revelation is that the Tweet is merely an attention-grabbing tactic for Combs, who’s using it as a springboard for yet another splashy campaign.

The casting, however, wouldn’t be entirely outside of the realm of possibility. The show is packed with established stars, and Diddy’s immense profile would only bring major amounts of new publicity to the already red-hot show.

But alas, according to reliable sources, the eyebrow-raising role is not meant for Diddy.

When asked for comment, a representative from PBS’s Masterpiece series told that Combs’ claims are “simply not true.”

ITV, the show’s home network in Britain, has also announced that the role of the jazz singer will be actually be played by actor Gary Carr.

Still, the music mogul has continued to perpetuate his own rumor with an Instagram post he claims is a “sneak peek” from the Downton Abbey set.

Combs’ current acting resume is impressive, appearing in such movies as Monster’s Ball, Get Him to the Greek and A Raisin in the Sun, reprising his role from a successful 2004 Broadway run of the classic 1959 play.

Downton Abbey, however, will not be among Comb’s considerable credits.
