Gucci Mane is denying accusations that he hit a soldier over the head with a champagne bottle at a nightclub earlier this year.

The rapper, whose real name is Radric Davis, pleaded not guilty of aggravated assault at his Monday (May 13) court date in an Atlanta Fulton Country courthouse, according to local newspaper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

According to Billboard, an arrest warrant was issued for Gucci after Texas soldier James Lettley told authorities that the rapper hit him in the V.I.P. section of downtown Atlanta’s Harlem Nights Club on March 16 as he approached Gucci for a picture.

The rapper’s attorney, Drew Findling, argued after the Monday hearing that there is no evidence against Gucci aside from the alleged victim’s report.

“He’s out on bond, just going about his life,” Findling told the newspaper.

Gucci met the $75,000 bond shortly after his April 9 arrest, and was released from jail on April 12. However, he was arrested again the very next day for violating probation and returned to jail until May 2.

This is not the rapper’s first brush with the law, with over a dozen prior arrests under his belt including a murder charge in 2005 that was eventually dropped.

Gucci’s upcoming mixtape, Trap House 3, drops next week.
