Avril Lavigne Goes To Prom In ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’ Video

Avril Lavigne dropped the video for “Here’s To Never Growing Up” on Thursday (May 9), giving visuals to the raucous anthem. While the clip hammers home the point, she recently explained how the rebellious song became the first single from her forthcoming album.

The video, which finds Lavigne reliving her youth, opens with Lavigne sitting by high school lockers belting out the chorus.

“Singing Radiohead at the top of our lungs/With the boom box blaring as we’re falling in love/Got a bottle of whatever but it’s getting us drunk/Singing here’s to never growing up.”

In an interview with Radio.com, Lavigne opened up about the track, which she co-wrote with fiancé Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.

“After writing ‘Here’s To Never Growing Up’ we recorded it pretty much right away and I came into the studio at about 11 p.m. to sing,” she said. “After singing it, it felt really good.”

The next day Lavigne went to the studio to hear the final version.

“I was the last one to walk into the studio and everyone was around the [sound]board and when I walked in everyone stopped and they looked at me and were like, ‘We have the first single!'”

Once they played the song for her she knew instantly they were right from the energy in the room. L.A. Reid stopped by later that day and agreed.

“I played him a bunch of songs and when we played that song for him he stood up and started clapping and it was awesome,” she recalled. “I was happy that he loved a song that I loved.”

Lavigne brings the song’s meaning to life in her new music video. The video takes place at prom with Lavigne and her band taking the stage. The video includes shots of Lavigne and friends skateboarding down the hall, trashing classrooms, breaking into pools at night, and playing Slip & Slide. All the while, Lavigne proves just why we should heed her advice and never grow up.
