Phillip Phillips Cancels Remaining Tour Dates ‘Due To Doctor’s Orders’

Phillip Phillips is headed home mid-tour due to ongoing health problems. Following doctor’s orders, the American Idol announced Monday (May 6) that he is cancelling the remaining nine dates of his current college tour.

He announced the news on Twitter and his Facebook page, assuring fans that the shows will be rescheduled.

“His doctor said he has to get off the road,” a source tells The Hollywood Reporter. “He was playing six shows a week, and it’s too much for him.”

It is unclear whether he will be well enough to attend the American Idol finale next week, but Phillips’ doctor reportedly feels that the singer will be better come July, when his tour with John Mayer kicks off.

Phillips had surgery just last year to remove massive kidney stones, with exhaustion and dehydration slowing him down on the current tour. He first revealed his health problems last year when he admitted that he had undergone eight kidney-related procedures, some around the time of the American Idol taping.

Phillips hits the road on Mayer’s Born & Raised tour July 7 in Milwaukee, traveling throughout North America through October.
