Chris Brown has officially marked the date of his upcoming album release, X, as July 16th.

The singer made the announcement on Twitter last night (April 29), when he posted a link to his new song “I Can’t Win.” While he confirmed that the track did not make the final cut of the album, writing “Some s*** I felt like writing that’s not on the album,” the video itself confirms the July date and a potential preview of the album’s artwork.

In the moody new song, which details the ups and downs of a relationship, he croons, “She ain’t bluffing/She gonna do it/I think it’s time for me to face the music/I couldn’t really give a damn about my pride.”

The track comes a month after the debut of his “Fine China” video, in which Brown also plays the role of misunderstood boyfriend. With his rumored on-and-off relationship with Rihanna as real-life inspiration, he seems to have plenty of fuel to continue writing new material in that vein.

He shared with MTV earlier this month that he recorded a duet, “Put It Up,” with Rihanna for X, which follows up his 2012 album, Fortune. Kendrick Lamar is also confirmed to appear on the album, as well as production credit from Diplo, according to USA Today.

As for the simple and mysterious album title, Breezy revealed that it holds multiple meanings, citing his birthday, age, tenure in the industry and the effort’s release date as correlating with the symbol, which is the Roman numeral for the number 10.

Whatever its true meaning, Brown is treating X as a shot to regain public support after a whirlwind 52 weeks in a domestic violence counseling program.
