Confirmed by the band, The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes will undergo throat surgery on April 18, his 20th birthday.
Sykes can be seen in a video uploaded to YouTube on April 10 speaking with a rasp. It was unclear if the singer had a sore throat or was simply ill, but now details have emerged that forced the band’s camp to confirm he will go under the knife.

It’s a far cry from how the singer spent his 19th birthday in 2012 — which was widely reported to have been a wild night for the British boy band at the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles.
The guys are currently in Los Angeles still, filming a forthcoming reality series for the E! network called The Wanted Life. The show is still set for a June 2 premiere.
