As the same-sex marriage debate rages in the Supreme Court (and the court of public opinion), Shirley Manson and her band Garbage let it be known exactly where they stand on the controversial topic, allowing a gay man to propose to his boyfriend onstage during a recent concert in Detroit.

According to Spinner, Manson stopped Garbage’s concert at Detroit’s Majestic Theater on March 30 to invite a fan named Scott onstage.

“So as it happens I was on my Facebook page yesterday, I was on the tour bus and I was going through messages as we do and we can’t obviously answer everyone,” Manson reportedly told the audience. “But then I saw this message from your boyfriend Scott and he told me that you were really super amazing,” adding, “then he told me a few other things about your private life that probably I shouldn’t know.”

A roadie brought out an extra microphone for the fan, who then proposed to his boyfriend Dominic from the stage, which he accepted amid encouraging cheers from the crowd. Watch below.

“I’m crying, this is so intense,” Manson said after the proposal.

“OK, last word on the subject,” Garbage posted on its official Facebook page, along with a photo of the band with the couple immediately after the proposal. “Thanks to all Garbage fans in Detroit for being good sports and joining in on all the love and fun. We love you SOooo much.”

The current Garbage U.S. tour in support of last spring’s Not Your Kind of People continues through the month of April, before heading down to Mexico for a pair of dates in Monterrey and Mexico City.
