There is not enough fake blood in the world to fuel the spit-take caused by the recent news that KISS – yes, that KISS – is teaming up with Hello Kitty for an animated series on kids network The Hub. The show is currently in the development phase.
As reported by USA Today, the show is tentatively titled Kiss Hello Kitty, and will be about “four Kiss x Hello Kitty characters living their rock ‘n’ roll dreams and bringing pink anarchy to every situation they are in.” What may come as a second surprise is that Kiss and Hello Kitty have already collaborated on a line of merchandise (naturally, since this is KISS we’re talking about), titled KISS x Hello Kitty. The line features Hello Kitty all dolled-up to look like the glam-tastic members of KISS, with one particularly memorable design bearing the title of KISS’s 1983 album, Lick It Up, Presumably, those KISS-ified versions of the Sanrio cat will serve as the main characters of the show.
As for the roles of the members of KISS, Gene Simmons is set to act as an executive producer, and Paul Stanley seems to be excited. Stanley tells USA Today: “Knowing and viewing The Hub as I do daily with my three children, it is the perfect home for us to bring the KISS Hello Kitty juggernaut to yet another generation,” though it remains unclear which generation has been affected by the KxHK juggernaut before.
The collaboration is a weird one, but if any sense is to be made of it, think about this: KISS and Hello Kitty were born just a year apart (1973 and 1974, respectively), so at least no laws are being broken. The show has no set premiere date just yet, but cannot possibly come soon enough.
