If you’re making the trek out to Indio, Cal. for Coachella with the aim of seeing the legendary Lou Reed perform, you may want to make other arrangements. The former Velvet Underground frontman has cancelled a series of concert dates that include both weekends at Coachella, as well as three other California concerts, according to his official site.

Reed was scheduled to perform each Coachella weekend’s opening night, April 12 and 19. Reed would have been the concert’s eldest act, bolstered by other “throwback artists” the Stone Roses and Blur.

Other cancelled California shows include San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre, Monterey’s Golden State Theatre, and Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre, April  14, 16 and 17, respectively. All three venues are offering refunds via the purchaser’s original payment method. No make-up dates have been announced.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Lou Reed show on April 16th has been canceled,” explains the Golden State Theatre’s website.

“We understand that you may be disappointed and perhaps even frustrated,” the theatre’s site continues. “As concert fans first, we can relate.”

Reed surprised 100 fans at New York’s Soho House on March 4th when he attended a listening party celebrating his 1972 Transformer album. According to U.K. music mag Uncut, Reed “took part in a discussion about the album’s content and its wider cultural significance.”
