When Nicki Minaj didn’t appear to the set on time for the first live taping of American Idol Wednesday night (March 13), the cameras kept on rolling. Her absence had many wondering what could have happened to the singer.
Did Mariah Carey and Minaj’s feud final get the best of Minaj? Or worse?
It turns out no pranks we pulled on the singer much to the dismay of America and it was a simple matter we’ve all faced: she was stuck in traffic.
Stuck in traffic *sighs*

While fans on Twitter blasted the singer for her tardiness, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down the singer’s appearances. The April ELLE Magazine cover girl opens up to the magazine about bullying and being on camera sans her usual makeup.
“I went through a lot of bullying early on,” she said. “Girls made my life a living hell. We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I’ve always put up this wall – it was a self-defense mechanism growing up – because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.”
Minaj has the last laugh, though, as she has quickly transformed herself to become one of music’s most recognizable talents. Her ELLE cover, which hits stands March 18, might surprise her Barbz, though. She was photographed wearing minimal makeup, a feat that originally scared the singer.
“When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me,” she told the magazine. “To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes – you know, nothing – I felt naked. It was scary!”
