Only three dates into his current tour with Matchbox Twenty, singer-songwriter Matt Hires already knew it was going to be one of his favorites.

Hires told that every night he’s playing the songs off his Forever EP, including “Restless Heart,” and teasing his upcoming album, due out this summer. Sharing his music is fulfilling, of course, but being with the guys of Matchbox Twenty is making this outing particularly enjoyable.

“Seriously, I’m not just saying this because I’m in front of a camera,” the singer said. “They’re the nicest dudes and their whole crew is nice.”

Even though Hires shares a label with the band, he had never met Rob Thomas and the rest of the guys before hitting the road with them. Hires knew the band’s music, but admitted it wasn’t until the tour started that he realized just how many of their songs he actually knew by heart.

“It’s funny,” he said. “The first show I played with them, it was one of those situations where you’re like, ‘Wow, I didn’t realize I know every single one of these songs!’ It’s awesome.”

Hires hasn’t played with Matchbox Twenty yet, but says he wouldn’t mind joining in for his own personal favorite MB20 tune, “She’s So Mean,” off the band’s 2012 album, NORTH.

Hires will be on tour with the band for the rest of the month. As for Matchbox, they just announced they’ll be hitting the road this summer with fellow ’90s hitmakers the Goo Goo Dolls.
