Michael Bublè’s latest single, “It’s a Beautiful Day,” is not about love or romance. It’s about revenge.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Bublè explained that he wrote the song off his upcoming album, To Be Loved (out April 23), as an anthem for the brokenhearted.

“The truth is I wanted to write a song to give people hope,” he said. “All those people who have been dumped by that jerk of a girlfriend or a boyfriend or a husband or a wife… for them to realize after it’s over it was the best thing that ever happened to them. That person truly sucked.”

Bublè joked that a certain One Direction heartthrob inspired the single. “It’s about my relationship with Harry Styles,” he joked. “They way that damn Taylor Swift stole him away from me.”

Of course, Bublè doesn’t really have any beef with Taylor. The crooner, who is expecting his first baby later this year, said he couldn’t be more content in his own life – and that shows in the music.

“It’s really an edgier record,” he said. “I put myself out there because I was brave. I was going to have a kid and I felt like no one could stop me. The truth was there was bigger fish to fry and bigger things to be worried about than if it sold a zillion copies or if critics liked it or not.”

He added, “If you close your eyes [when you listen], you can hear me smiling.”
